Most Iconic Rap Lyrics Of All Time?

You made it a hot line, I made it a hot song”  Jay -Z says it in Takeover which is deemed #1 in the “50 Best Hip-Hop Diss Songs” by Complex UK

Do you remember when rap artists had something more profound to say than, “YOUUUUUUUUUUU!” or “Shorty got low, low, low, low…?” I do. I remember when rap and hip hop flooded the radio. I remember when melodic beats were accompanied by intelligent rhymes and sophisticated metaphors. I especially remember the way hip hop was before the music industry started manufacturing packaged artists and spoon-fed lyrics.

In the first volume of what I hope to be a long-term series, Alfred takes 21 lines from artists such as Notorious B.I.G., Snoop Dogg, LL Cool J, Jay-Z, and others and pairs them with beautiful artwork by Shah Wonders to create a coffee table book fit for anybody’s collection.

The book provides insight into social experiences (racism, feminism, inequality) using hip hop’s most influential lines as the conduit. This book will be an integral part of the history, education, understanding, and appreciation of hip hop culture. In the short time, it has been released You Made It A Hot Line has already been added to the Brooklyn Public Library and requested by the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture (New York Public Library).

The Most Influential Lines in Hip Hop

OTM Media Group LLC has announced You Made It A Hot Line: The Most Influential Lines in Hip Hop by Alfred Obiesie. This book features song lyrics to all the greatest hip hop and rap songs. You Made It A Hot Line highlights the social significance of each line and its impact on our culture through savvy commentary and dope illustrations.

Those familiar with One Track Mine may know Alfred (Alf) better as Crazed Afrykan, our friendly neighborhood hip hop aficionado, whose wry wit and penchant for biting social commentary is legendary around these parts. As a hip hop producer and super-fan for over 30 years, he’s intimate with the motivations, rhymes, and reasons for one of the most revered genres in modern music. Alf suffered “sudden cardiac death,” spent two weeks in a medically induced coma. Not only did he live to tell the tale, but wrote the hysterical and insightful

The greatest lines written in music become embedded in our memories over time and also become staples in pop culture. Alfred Obiesie takes a look at some of the most influential and recited lines ever recorded in Rap music and examines their impact on Hip Hop culture.
